The California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) is an exam conducted by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) that gives certifications to educators who pass. To become a qualified educator in the state, applicant must first have the needed talents for the subject field. The CSET Foundational Level General Science Exam consists of two different sub tests. Applicants have to pass both subtests and if ever they fail to pass in either of the two exams, they are given the chance to retake the failed subtest but only after a period of 45 days. The score of the CSET Foundational Level General Science Exam is valid for 5 years.

The CSET Foundational Level General Science Exam is a mix of both multiple-choice questions and constructive response type queries hence examinees should have a decent knowledge base and good writing skills to answer the questions as accurately as possible. The maximum score achievable in the exam is 300 marks and a minimum of 220 marks are needed to pass the exam.
