CSET Business Exam Study Guide


The California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) is a certification exam conducted by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) that determines potential educators who are able to teach in the state. Educators must be very familiar with the subject to pass the exam and their competencies should be strong enough to tend to the needs of their future students. The CSET Business Exam tests aspiring educators’ efficiency in the field of teaching with three different subtests. Examinees must have to pass all three subtests and if ever an applicant fails a particular subtest, he/she can retake the exam only after a period of 45 days. The exam scores are valid for 5 years from the day of score declaration.      

Eligibility for CSET Business Exam


To be eligible to appear for the CSET Business Exam, applicants have to first fulfil certain conditions listed by the board. Educators need to be competent enough on the subject field in terms of educational qualification. CSET certification gives credentials to educators if they ever want to teach in middle and secondary grades. Above all, applicants must study hard and prepare well for the exam since it is the main determining reason for certification.

Format of CSET Business Exam


The CSET Business Exam measures the rationale of the candidates’ knowledge and talent. Topics to be covered in the CSET Business Exam are: business management, finance and accounting, information technology and marketing, economic science, business communication and professional environment. Other topics covered in CSET Business Exam are: ethical and social responsibility in business, organizational behavior and business theories, business law and human resources, principles and concepts of finance, globalization and marketing, micro economics and macroeconomics, entrepreneurship and career promotion etc.

These topics are very important for the exam hence applicants should study hard and make sure that they will not miss a crucial topic. The exam consists of three different subtests and each subtest consists of 40 multiple-choice questions and 2 constructed-response questions. Examinees should have a great knowledge database with good-decision making skills and also writing skills. Constructed-response questions are to be marked by a special educator from the board itself.

The maximum score for the exam is capped at 300 and a minimum of 220 marks are needed to pass the exam and be qualified for a certification.
